Orb for Android G1 – (Androrb 0.3a)

Hi,

today I got my commercial API from Orb (thanks to Orb).

Now I am able to share with you my little App I wrote for Android.

—- Info

With this Application ( i called it Androrb) you may request your media list that is stored on your pc from the orb server and open a video, audio, webradio or photo on your Android G1 Mobile.

Its still Alpha and there are several things to improve. Please keep in mind this is just a hobby from me and the only reason I give it into the public is to share my joy that I do not need to login by browser into orb, just to listen my music.

— Where to get the Pre-Version?

Here you find the Alpha Version to install on your G1.
http://www.guruk.com/android/androrb03a.apk

You can install this APK with a Tool you find in the Android Market called “Apps Installer”

When you open it first Time you have to enter your ORB UserID and Passwort.

I am only able to test this Version with WIFI on a G1 RC33 . So I am glad you send me your response and experience in your Environment.

—— Develop with me

Should you like helping in development, you may have a look on: https://developer.orb.com/wiki/Main_Page

There you find how to access the API and what commands are possible for he XML Response.
For example:
1. https://api.orb.com/orb/xml/session.login?apiKey=evcphjpgribp&l=myorbid&password=myorbpw
creates a session Key

2. https://api.orb.com/orb/xml/media.search?q=mediaType%3Dvideo&groupBy=author
now we request all Videos.

You may construct and explain XML Feeds you need and I can implement them by time.

—- Finaly :)

All the best and Enjoy.

Yours
Chris

Hey, found this blog today through several sources, looks like you’re posting on the orb forums too…but just wanted to say thanks for the work so far!! I wish I knew anything about coding otherwise I’d help, but if you need a regular user to test let me know. I’ve got the 0.3a version running and it seems to work well over wi-fi, but no dice over 3G (at least video, haven’t tried audio yet).

Anyways keep up the good work, I can’t wait till June for a native app.

Great program…keep working on it! I dont see where in your program you can view TV streams and webcams. If I am mistaken please let me know.

  3. Christian says:

Can you tell me where to sign up becausei think this app is good and I want to try it out

  4. admin says:

    check out http://www.orb.com
and download / install their Server to your local PC.
While Installation your can add a new User to the orb-Network.

The new created ID and Password you can also use with
Androrb (what finaly is just another client)

    greets
    Chris

  5. Young says:

Thanks for your program. I installed it and it looks great. However, it got “Cannot play video” when I tried to play .mp3 audio files. Am I doing wrong here?

    Thanks,

    Young

Hey, loving this app, can stream videos/audio fine over wifi and 3g…

any plans for an update? i think the most required update would be to allow navigation via folder view?

    Keep up the good work.

    Karl

Hey it sounds good but everytime I ry to use it it keeps askin me to login and no info I use works

    —– Answer from Admin:
Go to http://orb.com . Download ORB . While Setup you create a new User and Password. User this User and Password also in Androrb. Androrb is just another Client for Orb.

I’ve tested and I’ve been able to play my videos using my provider’s 3G connection., excellent!

I haven’t been able to use Orb’s site on my phone to do this.

The only thing that really needs work is the interface

    Thank you very much.
Please keep up the great work!

  9. Jon says:

Nice App. I wonderif there will be a way to play custom stations from Orb (say my Xm) on it though.
    Thanks.

  10. IMSargon says:

I have been using your app for some time, now. What it needs to be really useful, however, is for the “Rescan” feature found on the website to be implemented.

  11. Bill D-G says:

Thanks for the app. It works great!

  12. Milad says:

Are you planning on implementing folder organization?

I have over 4000 music files!
    Thank you.

  13. Kevin says:

Love the app! It’s nice to be able to watch via 3G and WiFi. I also think folder organization would be very nice to have, as I have almost 3000 videos. Thanks for the great app!

  14. Peter says:

    Great App!
    Keep working!

  15. Chris says:

Nice work so far, but the GUI could use a folder grouping system. I’ve got thousands of tracks in my audio library and they’re a nightmare to navigate. You either want one of those listViews with the tab on the side or a search function for easier navigation.

Ideally tracks would be grouped by artist, album etc.

    Keep up the good work!

    Hello,

Based on your project, I have extended your project.
Since you are making it as open source project, is it okay to post your source and mine to google code?
Also, I would like to publish it within a week.
If it is okay, I will move forward with it.
Meanwhile, you can access my code to
    http://damgood.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/

    (Project name – OrbDroid)

    thank you,

    Kun
